Dark bright spot in writing competition
Action adventure takes eighth place in 2004 screenplay competition
October 12, 2004 -- Local writer Kristy Dark for the second
time was a winner in the Writer’s Digest Annual Writing Competition.
Her action/adventure screenplay "The Long Count," about a
Malibu
detective who time travels to the world of the ancient Maya to rescue his
kidnapped daughter, was awarded
8th Place
in the Screenplay category in the 2004 Competition.
Previously, her short story "The Last Story" won
3rd Place
in the Genre Short Story category in 2001, and a short film based on that story
is now in post-production. This
year’s Writer’s Digest Annual Writing Competition received 17,584
manuscripts in 10 different categories. First-round
judge for the Screenplay category was Chad Gervich, Manager of Talent &
Development at Paramount Television. Final-round
judge was Warren Littlefield, head of the Littlefield Company, who served as
President of NBC Entertainment for 10 years.
Kristy, a long-time resident of Ojai, has written seven other screenplays
and is currently working on her third novel.
Her short stories and non-fiction have been published in numerous
newspapers, magazines and ezines.
